How I started Writing Songs
Not sure what you do with your free time, but do you ever sit down and just doodle? But instead of drawing pictures, you write down words and phrases that come to your mind? I do, and I honestly thought that EVERYONE does the same thing. Anyway, I had written down some “word doodles” on a yellow lined pad and accidentally left the pad at a client’s house. He said, “I didn’t know you were a songwriter.” Neither did I. He suggested that I sing a melody that came to mind into a voice recorder and send it to a singer. So I got together with a guy named Chris who sings and plays guitar and he was actually able to turn my lyrics into songs. Not sure if they are any GOOD or not, lol, but some people have actually liked them. Read the lyrics first and see if a melody comes to your mind. Then have a listen.

Some days stick together in your heart
like that summer when you were moving out
Every day seemed a bit hotter – with
trees stretched out… for thunder.
By the lake two long summer shadows
passed little ducks starting to paddle
As we walked hand in hand…
sandals flicking up the sand
But the glow of the day and
your sun-burned face
your arms arched out like a love ballet
laying on the grass as we… embraced.
How we’d laugh all the time
And you’d dance whenever you’d please!
You are my favorite memory…of summer.
Talking at night times, under street lights
Long hair, smooth skin, bikini tan lines
Driving my pickup truck on a country road
(with you there by my side.)
and the glow of the day and
your sun-burned face
your arms arched out like a love ballet
laying on the grass as we, embraced
How we’d laugh all the time
And you’d dance where-ever you’d please
You are my favorite memory…of summer.
Beer and bare feet barbecues…
picnics, hot dogs, swimming pools
making out at the junior high school
Fireworks and me… and you.
Crayons melted in the sky,
so many stars came out to see us that night
You gave me a hug when you said good-bye
Now you have gone… away.
My heart like a melted, ice cream cone
though I knew one day it might come,
I just didn’t know what I should expect
Sometimes love sucks… like that.
But the glow of the day and
your sun-burned face
your arms arched out like a love ballet
laying on the grass as we… embraced
How we’d laugh all the time
And you’d dance whenever you’d please
You are my favorite memory…
of summer….
of summer…
You are my favorite memory…
of summer.
of summer…
of summer….
of summer.

Gift of Love
Robert Boog sung by Phydra
Jump up –today’s my birthday
and I’m now six years old
I’m a little drunk on freedom-
-don’t always do as I am told.
Head out and my mom is smiling
and now I’m wondering!
There’s popcorn on the cherry trees
and a little bird stares at me.
He’s green with yellow feathers,
And likes to tickle my neck.
I feed him and I water him.
Best birthday present yet!
Gift of love…it’s a gift from above,
and as mommy watches me…
Tears slide from her smiling eyes and I begin to sing
Run out —cuz today’s my birthday…
my sister envies me
Put my birdy on her shoulder,
and then she laughs out suddenly.
Show off— today’s my birthday
and everywhere I go.
Little birdy guards my shoulder
cuz he wants everyone to know
He’s a gift of love.
A gift from above,
and as my mommy watches me…
Tears slide from her smiling eyes
and I begin to sing He’s a gift of love –
a gift from above, a gift of love –
a gift from my mom
Wake up — today’s my birthday,
and I’m twenty-six years old
Buy coffee at the shopping mall
and I shiver cuz I’m cold – oh oh
Sun’s out— cuz today is my birthday,
see a little boy and his mom.
He smiles at me as he passes by and I watch them move along
He’s gotta green and yellow sweater -n-
he laughs out of control
She holds his little hand in hers-
-they love each other so-oh
He’s a gift of love a gift from above
and as his mommy watches me
Tears slide from her smiling eyes
and I begin to sing
He’s a gift of love –
a gift from above
A gift of love – a gift from above
A gift of love –
a gift from his mom
A gift of love – it’s a gift of love.

sung by Chris Davidson
lyrics by Robert Boog
Drove all night to see his ex-wife
Give new hubby a break
Stayed with her after chemo
So Hubby got to sleep that day.
Three weeks later she passed away
Surrounded by all her friends
Someone paid for the funeral
(No one ever learned who did.)
Random acts of kindness
That don’t make the front page news
Maybe it’s a way we tell someone
I care about you
Random acts of kindness
that we’re all guilty of
Maybe it’s a way we show our thanks
To the man above.
Customer at a crowded cafe
Left a hundred dollar tip
Place was packed so food was cool
(But, he had been a waiter too!)
I did something nice for my wife
I cleaned out her messy car
And because she likes nature
I plant a tree in the yard.
Random acts of kindness
That don’t make the front page news
Maybe it’s a way we tell someone
I care about you
Random acts of kindness
That we’re all guilty of
Maybe it’s a way we show our thanks
To the man above.
You can change somebody’s life by just being kind
And the memory carries with them – for all their life
So don’t underestimate the powerful effect
My six year old says, “One day, I’m gonna help a Vet!”
Random acts of kindness
That don’t make the front page news
Maybe it’s a way we tell someone
I’ve been in your shoes.
Car in front of me paid my bill
at the drive-through today. I
Left $200 for cars behind and
I hope it gives them faith!
Random acts of kindness
That we’re all guilty of
Maybe it’s a way we show our thanks
To the man above.
Or,
Maybe it’s today.
We show some love
To just anyone.
